Of all the major traditional festivals and popular the That Luang is by far my favorite.
Having more room to move around (unlike the festivities taking place along the Mekong ...), to have an overview of the monument as a backdrop, makes the pretty impressive event.
This year, the esplanade of the That Luang, was more than ever invaded by dozens of stalls inviting onlookers, often come in large family, feast while enjoying grilled chicken, eggs hatched, purple rice sticky ... or why not buy helium balloons or Chinese collars for multicolored glitter children? The consumer products were also at the rendezvous with their stands attractive ... And we can assure you that this direct marketing, blinding and deafening as it is, works great! People from all over Laos in the late evening, are bent under the weight of their many shopping bags!
A celebration under heavy police surveillance anyway, to believe that fear of incidents during
of large gatherings to be permanently seized from Laos. of police checkpoints , body searches three times before arriving at the foot of the That, special badges for the introduction of cameras and video cameras ... All with a smile happily. But a little bitter aftertaste of change in the air ... 
The sad note of the weekend ... my little compact has finally given up the ghost ... So we took over the "brick" Bookseller, discrete point, but quite effective nonetheless.
